Russell McKenzie dies in fatal New Haven shooting

Fatal New Haven shooting death of Russell McKenzie – Obituary.

Police in New Haven are investigating the death of 57-year-old Russell McKenzie, who was discovered with a gunshot wound early Wednesday, as a homicide.

Officers were dispatched to a residence near Walnut Street and East Street at approximately 1:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Emergency medical personnel declared McKenzie deceased at the scene.

A woman who called police from outside the residence appeared highly distressed and was experiencing difficulty breathing. She was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital as a precaution.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy, confirming that McKenzie’s death was caused by a gunshot wound and ruling it a homicide.

As part of the investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at the apartment. Police are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact New Haven detectives at 203-946-6304. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by calling 866-888-TIPS (8477).
