Fatal Phoenix shooting death of Joanne Marie Smith – Obituary

Joanne Marie Smith, a 72-year-old woman, was killed in a drive-by shooting in south Phoenix on Sunday evening.

Phoenix police responded to reports of gunfire near Roeser Road and 24th Street around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Smith suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators believe Smith was standing outside a home when a vehicle approached, and individuals inside began shooting at the residence. She was struck in the gunfire.
