Authorities have identified 17-year-old Matthew R. Putnam of Columbia as the victim of a deadly single-car crash that occurred on Alpine Road on Thursday.
According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, Putnam was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang northbound when the vehicle attempted to pass another car. During the maneuver, the Mustang veered off the right side of the road and crashed into a pole.
Putnam, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, did not survive the crash.
Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford extended condolences to Putnam’s family and assured the public that the South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident.
