Fatal Will County car crash death of Mason Smolik – Obituary

Eighteen-year-old Mason Smolik of Joliet lost his life in a tragic crash that occurred on Sunday evening in Will County, according to the local coroner’s office. The incident took place around 6:31 p.m. in the 17300 block of New Lenox Road.

Authorities say Smolik was behind the wheel of a Honda sedan traveling westbound when he lost control of the vehicle. It veered into the eastbound lane and then slid off the roadway, ultimately colliding with a large, unoccupied piece of construction machinery.

Smolik was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Will County Coroner’s Office officially identified him following the fatal accident.
