Fatal Streamwood stabbing death of Janiya Jenkins – Obituary

Janiya Jenkins, 21, tragically lost her life along with a 10-year-old girl in a stabbing incident that took place in the Chicago suburb of Streamwood.

Authorities launched a manhunt for 25-year-old suspect Jalonie Jenkins, who is considered armed and dangerous. Police found the vehicle linked to the suspect in nearby Bensenville late Wednesday but have not yet apprehended him as of Thursday afternoon.

The victims, Janiya Jenkins and 10-year-old Uyani Jones, were discovered inside a home on McKool Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday after emergency services responded to a stabbing call. The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified both victims, though autopsy results are still pending.

Neighbors described the horrifying scene, with one saying a young relative alerted her to the bodies inside the house.

Police Chief Shawn Taylor expressed condolences to the victims’ families and assured the public that officers and the Major Case Assistance Team have been working tirelessly to solve the case, which remains an isolated event. Residents are advised to avoid the suspect if spotted and to call 911 immediately.

The local school district, U-46, will offer grief counseling for those affected by the tragedy at Parkwood School on Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information about Jalonie Jenkins or the incident is urged to contact the Streamwood Police Department directly or use their confidential tipline.
