Fifteen-year-old Vance Kanter Schmidt of Belton lost his life in a tragic crash on Monday in Anderson County. Authorities responded around 12:50 p.m. to a call about a pickup truck that had collided with a tree on West Road.

According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, Schmidt was driving when he veered off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and then struck a tree. He was declared dead at the scene. The incident remains under active investigation by the coroner’s office and the state highway patrol.
