Fatal Wood River train accident death of Jason Palka – Obituary

Jason Palka, 44, from Manteno, Illinois, was struck and killed by a train in Wood River on the evening of June 8, 2025. Authorities from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident around 10:11 p.m. near the intersection of 9th Street and Railroad Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian hit by a train.

Palka’s vehicle was found abandoned close to the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that the incident was self-inflicted. Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
