Fatal St. Louis County shooting death of Matisha Hobson

A woman identified as Matisha Hobson, 45, was found dead inside a car Sunday night after being shot in St. Louis County.

Police responded to Lucas and Hunt Road at San Diego Avenue around 9:50 p.m. following a report of someone slumped over inside a vehicle. When officers arrived, they discovered Hobson in the driver’s seat with a critical gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead shortly after.

Investigators took a person of interest into custody at the scene. The next day, authorities filed charges against 51-year-old Milo Rankins, who now faces counts of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to court records, Rankins confessed to fatally shooting Hobson. Officers at the scene reported spotting a firearm and spent shell casings clearly visible inside the car.

Rankins is currently detained on a $1 million bond while the investigation continues.
