Fatal Santa Rosa shooting death of Emily Hemming

A 24-year-old woman, Emily Hemming, was shot and killed by her boyfriend in what authorities have determined to be a murder-suicide in Santa Rosa.

According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, the deadly incident occurred on June 11 inside the couple’s apartment on Atlanta Court. Investigators believe Vicente Carrillo-Cedillo fatally shot Hemming multiple times with an assault rifle before turning the gun on himself.

The couple, both 24, had relocated from Southern California to Santa Rosa in 2022. Authorities noted there were no prior documented cases of domestic violence involving either individual in either location.

At around 2:20 p.m., nearby residents reported hearing gunfire. When police arrived at 2:40 p.m. and received no response from within, a hostage negotiation team attempted to make contact while evacuating the surrounding area.

By 4:30 p.m., a SWAT team entered the apartment and discovered both Hemming and Carrillo-Cedillo dead from gunshot wounds in a bedroom. Police said several firearms were found in the apartment, including the assault rifle used in the shooting.

This marks the second murder-suicide in Santa Rosa this year. The previous case in January involved the deaths of four family members on Monarch Court, with authorities naming Clive Guth as the suspected shooter.

In response to these tragedies, the Santa Rosa Police Department emphasized their ongoing commitment to helping domestic violence survivors. Local resources such as the Family Justice Center of Sonoma County and the YWCA Sonoma County are available to provide emergency support and advocacy services.
