Fatal Syracuse shooting death of Adhon Thomas
Adhon Thomas, a 15-year-old boy, died as a result of a shooting that occurred near the Upper Onondaga Park Pool in Syracuse. The incident took place in the Strathmore neighborhood.
Syracuse officials addressed the media outside the Upper Onondaga Park Pool following the fatal incident in Onondaga Park. Police Chief Joseph Cecile confirmed the death of Adhon Thomas, a teenager.
Syracuse police spokesperson Kieran Coffey stated that the 15-year-old victim, Adhon Thomas, has been identified. Thomas was shot in the abdomen by an unknown individual just outside the pool’s fence, according to Chief Cecile.
Thomas was transported to Upstate University Hospital where medical personnel confirmed his death.
The shooter remains at large, and authorities have not located the weapon used in the shooting. As of Wednesday, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting.
Dispatch records from the Onondaga County 911 Center indicate that shots were detected around 2 p.m. by the city’s ShotSpotter system located in Upper Onondaga Park.
Shortly thereafter, a 911 caller reported gunfire near the pool and described a male being shot in the stomach.
By 3 p.m., multiple police vehicles, including three crime scene vans, were secured at the park. The pool facility was evacuated and secured with police tape.
A crowd gathered near the Upper Onondaga Park pavilion as news of the tragic incident spread.
