A tragic car crash on Melton Road near Highlandville claimed the lives of an off-duty law enforcement officer and his spouse. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported that Deputy Michael E. Adams, aged 52, and his wife, Ashley, 45, were victims of a severe head-on collision.

The investigation suggests the deputy couple was struck by a driver suspected of impairment and with a prior record of evading police. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. Monday. Both Michael E. Adams and his wife Ashley were pronounced deceased at the crash location and subsequently transported to the Coroner’s Office.

Their infant grandchild, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious but stable injuries and received medical treatment at a hospital. The other individual involved in the collision suffered moderate injuries and was also transported for evaluation.

Deputy Sheriff Michael E. Adams joined the Christian County Sheriff’s Office team in November 2022. His professional background includes service with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office, preceded by a career in the Air Force.

Sheriff Brad Cole expressed profound sorrow, stating, “Mike was one of those guys that no matter what the situation was, or he was asked to do, you could count on him.” He added that the loss deeply affects the agency and the community, extending condolences to the family during their time of grief.

Funeral arrangements for Deputy Adams are pending further details from the authorities. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office has requested respect for the family’s privacy during their mourning period.
