Emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle collision on KY 408 West shortly before dawn on July 1st. Law enforcement dispatched to the scene discovered a minivan had departed the roadway, impacting a tree before igniting. The resulting blaze complicated rescue operations at the location in the 2000 block of KY 408 West.

The 22-year-old female passenger, Raye A. Jones, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severe trauma sustained in the incident. Rescue teams prioritized saving Jones while simultaneously attending to the driver, Sherrod Shelton.

Sherrod Shelton, a 30-year-old male, suffered critical injuries during the collision. He was immediately transported by Mayfield Graves County EMS to Lourdes Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to a hospital situated outside the state for specialized care.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision. Preliminary findings suggest a disturbance within the vehicle may have occurred immediately prior to the crash. This potential domestic situation is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. The official cause of the crash remains undetermined pending a thorough examination by authorities.
