A 74-year-old Las Vegas man named George Petre died as a result of injuries sustained when his vehicle collided with another car and subsequently crashed into a building in the central Las Vegas Valley.

The incident began in the late afternoon, specifically just before 2:20 p.m. on Ernest May Lane. This location is situated south of West Washington Avenue and west of the intersection with North Rancho Drive. The vehicles involved were a 2003 Nissan Altima and a 2012 Nissan Versa. According to reports, the Altima was attempting to exit a private drive on the southern side of the street. At the same time, the Versa was traveling northbound through private property just south of where the Altima was located.

The sequence of events unfolded when the Versa, for reasons not yet determined, gained speed, crossed over landscaping and the sidewalk, entered the main road, and struck the rear right side of the Altima. Following this collision, the Versa continued its path, crossed through the property, and impacted the building located at 821 N. Rancho Drive.

The driver of the Altima, a woman aged 78 from North Las Vegas, was injured in the crash but is not the focus of this report. The official determination regarding Petre’s death comes from the Clark County coroner’s office, which stated that the fatal injuries were directly related to the accident. This incident marks the 86th traffic fatality within the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction during the year 2025.
