An adolescent from Birmingham, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as Jaylon Jarriel Gregory who was nineteen years of age, lost his life on Friday morning subsequent to a shooting incident.

Law enforcement officials with the Gardendale police department are currently investigating the precise moment and location of the fatal shooting, with the medical examiner noting that the injury occurred on Chapel Ridge Drive.

Chief Scott Banks reported that authorities were alerted to the situation when Gregory was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was confirmed deceased at 12:44 a.m. on that day.

This unfortunate event marks the first homicide in Gardendale for the current year and represents a significant gap since the last such incident in 2023. The total number of homicides reported in Jefferson County during that period was fifty-eight, including this case.
