Fatal Chicago shooting death of Meeyah Smith

A shooting in the Avalon Park area of Chicago resulted in the death of a teenager and left a man injured Friday evening. According to police reports, the incident took place on East 83rd Street around 11 p.m.

Chicago authorities stated that a male suspect approached Meeyah Smith, who was 16 years old, and a man aged 35. The suspect then produced a weapon and fired several shots. Medical personnel transported the injured man to Jackson Park Hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition after being wounded in the leg. Meeyah Smith, who was shot in the throat, was also taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her identity.

Currently, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is being handled by detectives from the Area Two division. Police have not released further details about the shooting at this time.
