Fair Oaks man James Douglas Caddy dies in fatal Folsom homicide

Fatal Folsom homicide death of full name James Douglas Caddy

Folsom law enforcement is examining a potential homicide case after a 63-year-old resident from Fair Oaks passed away on Saturday, the result of an altercation at a bar in Folsom’s historic section. According to a statement from Folsom police spokesperson Officer Deidre McAuliff, officers went to the City Slickers bar on the 700 block of Gold Lake Drive around 3:40 p.m. for a medical emergency. The event then transformed into a criminal probe, but authorities stated they cannot provide specifics on the cause of death, as the investigation is ongoing. Police records from that day do not indicate any service calls at Gold Lake Drive or nearby Lake Natoma waterfront areas. Nevertheless, dispatch audio from The Sacramento Bee suggests a physical conflict broke out between the deceased and a bar staff member prior to the arrival of the police. The responding officers noted that bar personnel were not helpful right away, as per the dispatch information. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the deceased as James Douglas Caddy and has ruled the death a homicide, marking the city’s initial homicide case this year. On Saturday, City Slickers was holding a fundraising event for an employee who suffered injuries in a motorcycle accident, as announced on their Facebook page. A staff member at City Slickers, when contacted on Tuesday, directed all media requests to management, who were not reachable at that time. City Slickers, originally established in 1994, relocated to its current Gold Lake Drive spot in 2018 after being evicted from its previous location on Natoma Street due to lease payment issues, as reported by the Sacramento Business Journal. In 2010, a 44-year-old Sacramento man was killed in what was described as a hit-and-run incident in the bar’s parking lot, which happened just after a reported argument inside the old Natoma Street branch. The public is asked to come forward with any information regarding this Saturday’s incident by contacting the Folsom Police Department at 916-355-7231 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
