Kaufman County, TX Man Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni Arrested in Fatal I-20 Pileup Crash

KAUFMAN COUNTY, TEXAS — Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni, a truck driver, was arrested in Kaufman County in connection with a deadly crash on Interstate 20 that killed six people.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Gonzalez-Companioni was taken into custody on Sunday following a collision involving his tractor-trailer and multiple vehicles near the Hiram Road bridge. Authorities say the crash occurred Saturday when Gonzalez-Companioni, who was reportedly asleep at the wheel, failed to stop for traffic that had backed up due to an earlier accident.

Gonzalez-Companioni’s 18-wheeler struck a Ford F-150, killing four occupants at the scene. A fifth person from the pickup later died at the hospital. The crash also killed the driver of a Jeep Compass and triggered a chain reaction involving seven vehicles in total.

Gonzalez-Companioni was transported to the Kaufman County Detention Center and is currently facing six counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
