Fatal Wayne County car crash death of Rick Moore of Monticello

Wayne County authorities reported a tragic incident Monday evening involving a fatality and multiple injuries at a high-risk intersection. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a serious collision near the junction of West Kentucky Highway 90 and Kentucky Highway 1546 around 7 p.m. on June 30.

Deputies and other agencies arrived at the scene to investigate a crash that investigators described as involving a 2003 Chevrolet automobile passing another vehicle on Highway 90. The Chevrolet then collided with a 2001 Toyota pickup truck driving eastbound. Inside the Toyota were occupants from Albany, including two adults and two children.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as a 59-year-old Wayne County man, was pronounced deceased by the county’s coroner at the crash site. Officials confirmed that two of the Toyota’s passengers were airlifted to a university hospital for treatment, while the other two involved individuals were transported to other nearby medical facilities.

Further details regarding the condition of the four survivors remain unknown at this time.

Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron highlighted that the specific intersection has been the location of numerous deadly accidents over the past years, including one fatal incident earlier in 2025. The Wayne County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Rick Moore, a resident of Monticello.
