Fatal Cullman County car crash death of Cynthia Ruth Baker Reeves

A tragic head-on collision claimed the life of a woman from north Alabama, leaving five others hospitalized after the incident near Cullman that occurred on Sunday afternoon. The fatal accident happened approximately one mile south of Crane Hill along Cullman County 222, close to its intersection with Cullman County 351. State troopers reported that Cynthia Ruth Baker Reeves, who was 55 and resided in Hartselle, was driving a silver Chevrolet Impala and lost control of her vehicle.

According to the initial report from Alabama State Troopers, Reeves was not wearing a seat belt during the fatal crash on Sunday at 3 p.m. Responders pronounced her death at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the devastating head-on impact was identified as 39-year-old Shawn P. Bagwell from Cullman. Bagwell sustained injuries and was transported by helicopter to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.

The second vehicle, a dark gray Chevrolet Silverado driven by Bagwell, contained four minors – three teenagers and a 13-year-old, along with a 14-year-old, a 12-year-old, and an 8-year-old – all of whom were taken to a local medical facility with injuries.

Investigators from the Alabama State Troopers are currently examining the circumstances surrounding this deadly car crash, which resulted in a fatality and multiple injuries, to determine the cause and potential contributing factors.
