According to the Newport Police Department, Conrad passed away after being struck by another car on I-471 northbound around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities reported that he was in the process of assisting with a disabled automobile when a driver collided with his car, propelling it towards him.

The family of the deceased expressed profound sorrow, emphasizing that no one should face such a fate while attempting to help others in their time of need. They conveyed this message through a statement, highlighting the senseless nature of the incident.

Conrad’s aunt, Sienna Thompson, described the 36-year-old as a deeply devoted family man, always eager to assist anyone in need. She shared, “He was someone who would drop everything for his loved ones or strangers alike. If someone reached out at any hour, day or night, he was there to support them.”

Newport police confirmed that Conrad’s fiancée, Amber Phillips, was present in the vehicle during the collision. Both were transported to UC Medical Center, where Conrad unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Anieya, one of Conrad’s and Amber’s nine offspring, provided additional details. She mentioned that her mother, who was also injured, remains hospitalized with a serious spinal injury. Anieya stated, “We’re still in the early stages, so we don’t have much information, but she’s under their care.”

Speaking on behalf of the extended family, Anieya noted that Conrad’s legacy includes his eight siblings, three grandchildren, and his fiancée. She fondly recalled, “My mom was his true companion, always by his side. She meant the world to him, both as his partner and his confidant.”

Thompson, Conrad’s aunt, hopes that this heartbreaking event will motivate others to exercise caution on the roads. She implored, “If you see a vehicle stopped with its hazard lights flashing, please pull over safely and slow down—it could save a life.”

Beyond his personal family, Conrad was known for his community involvement. He was pursuing a degree to become a counselor and was actively involved in expungement clinics, advocating for second chances for individuals with criminal backgrounds. Thompson elaborated, “He was a tireless advocate in our community, passionate about giving people opportunities they deserved.”

Anieya expressed her family’s commitment to preserving Conrad’s memory and hopes that his selfless acts will inspire others. She said, “We’ll always honor his name, and we wish for more people like Antonio Conrad to exist, so this can serve as a beacon of hope.”
