Utah authorities confirmed the identity of the deceased individual, identified as nineteen-year-old Teagan B. Swanepoel from Preston, Idaho. The Utah Department of Public Safety reported the incident occurred on the night of July 24th, specifically before 11 p.m.
According to the department’s official statement, the accident transpired on State Route 101, approximately at mile marker ten. The motorcyclist was traveling westbound when their vehicle encountered a bend in the road. The driver apparently failed to successfully navigate this curve and subsequently departed the roadway.
Specifically, the statement detailed that the road surface at that point was roughly twelve feet above the river below. The motorcycle left the paved surface near a structure crossing the river. It then landed within some vegetation on the opposite bank before ultimately coming to rest in the water.
Despite the fatal outcome, official reports noted that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Tragically, the injuries sustained in the accident proved fatal, as the individual did not survive the experience. The Utah Department of Public Safety is currently examining the possibility of excessive speed contributing to the circumstances leading up to this incident.
