Law enforcement in Kansas City, Missouri, was dispatched to a reported incident following a 8 p.m. alert on Wednesday evening regarding gunfire in the Morrell Avenue vicinity. Upon their arrival, responders found a man identified as Braisen Cain, aged 42, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. This fatal shooting marks the death of the individual later revealed to be a Blue Springs man who had been the former partner of the accused.

Investigators from the homicide division arrived to collect evidence and spoke with a person who observed the shooting. This individual reported hearing the shots and seeing the suspect, identified as Arel Dawkins, 36, firing a weapon at Cain. The witness further stated that Dawkins reloaded his firearm and continued to shoot at the victim. According to the witness, there was a recent breakup between Cain and Dawkins, with Cain being pregnant by Dawkins’ child.

Another individual provided law enforcement with video footage that depicted Dawkins driving an F-150 truck and allegedly striking Cain before exiting the vehicle and shooting her at close range.
