Fatal Cary shooting death of Fatima Massri and Abderrahman “Abdul” Rajab

Cary police confirmed two individuals died in a Friday shooting at the Windsor at Tryon Village Apartments located on Underwood Arbor Place. The incident is being treated as a possible murder-suicide, with officials noting that the deaths resulted from gunshot wounds.

Investigators arrived at the scene just after 4 p.m. Friday following the emergency call. The two victims, identified as 55-year-old Fatima Massri and her estranged husband Abderrahman “Abdul” Rajab, were discovered deceased by responding officers. Authorities stated the shooting was connected to a domestic violence situation.

Multiple residents reported that the deceased couple were originally from Syria. Neighbors described them as parents to three adult children. A spokesperson confirmed no active threat to the public exists.

WRAL News reported seeing at least eight Cary police vehicles at the scene. One resident, Tajsha Shy, expressed shock at the situation. “It’s very unsettling, especially when you don’t know what’s happening,” Shy shared. “I’m out here trying to find out what is going on because we haven’t been told anything.”

Another resident, Adra, mentioned considering her parents if she had been in a similar situation. “I can’t even begin to understand, but my heart feels so heavy right now,” she explained.

This marks the second fatal incident at the Windsor at Tryon Village Apartments in two years. In 2023, a man in a mental health crisis held his son hostage before taking his own life, leaving the boy with minor injuries.
