A man who passed away after an accidental drowning in the Clackamas River last month has been identified. Officials from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Germain Merilan, a 32-year-old man from Gresham, died as a result of drowning on Sunday, July 27th. The determination regarding the cause of death was made after an autopsy conducted by the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office. The incident occurred while Mr. Merilan was engaging in leisure activities on the river, specifically near Carver Park, located at 14888 S. Springwater Avenue in unincorporated Clackamas County. His wife contacted authorities just after 6:45 p.m., noting he had submerged underwater and failed to resurface within a half-hour.
