Fatal North Charleston car crash death of Herbert Dawson

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office announced the identity of the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run collision that occurred Tuesday morning.

According to Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal, the 47-year-old Herbert Dawson from North Charleston died as a result of the injuries he received in the incident.

Police reports indicate officers were dispatched at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday to Rivers Avenue, close to Piggly Wiggly Drive, for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they discovered the driver of the vehicle involved had already departed.

Emergency personnel pronounced Herbert Dawson deceased at the location where the accident happened.

North Charleston police continue their search for the individual who fled the scene.
