Fatal Northern Kentucky shooting death of John Lawyer

Following a recent court decision that restored custody rights to a father from Boone County, his former partner took lethal action against him shortly after at her apartment in Northern Kentucky, a law enforcement official reported.

Anastazia Calhoun, identified as the 28-year-old Florence woman, faces charges of homicide in the death of the 29-year-old man, John Lawyer, in Boone County’s judicial system.

Calhoun made an appearance before a judge on August 7th from her detention facility, appearing remotely. This procedural step was meant to establish the future course of the legal proceedings, specifically whether the charges against her would be evaluated by a grand jury.

According to the official report from the Florence police department, Detective Zack Eagler detailed the sequence of events during a preliminary hearing. He stated that police were dispatched to Calhoun’s residence on Lloyd Avenue on the afternoon of July 25th. Her 911 call indicated that she had shot her ex-boyfriend, citing his aggressive behavior as the reason for her desperate action.
