Law enforcement reported an incident on Thursday evening in Covington. The authorities were dispatched to the area around 7:20 p.m. concerning a collision involving a pedestrian.
Upon their arrival, emergency responders found a female individual who had been struck by an automobile while walking her canine companion. The pedestrian suffered critical injuries as a result.
Emergency medical services transported the injured person to a nearby medical facility, UC Medical Center. Regrettably, medical staff could not save her, and she passed away due to the severity of her wounds.
The local authorities confirmed that the deceased was Krista Mary Wilmink, a resident of Covington. According to information provided by her relatives, the animal involved was not harmed in the accident.
A family source quoted the victim’s spouse, Jeff, expressing his grief by describing her as “a beautiful person.”
The individual driving the vehicle involved in the incident chose to remain at the scene and worked cooperatively with the investigating officers. Police have indicated that they have not decided to prosecute the driver at this stage, and their inquiry is still in progress.
West Pike Street was shut down for a period to facilitate the police investigation. The necessary repairs or procedures were completed, and the street has since been reopened to the public.
