Fatal drowning death of Chase Dmuchowsky
Officials with Presque Isle Police confirmed that remains recovered near Sears Island have been identified as those of Chase Dmuchowsky. The young man had previously vanished without a trace from the University of Maine at Presque Isle earlier this year.
Dmuchowsky’s final known moments were captured on October 24, 2022, when he was last observed leaving his dormitory accommodation on the university grounds. He departed around 6:00 in the evening. By that same evening, his personal vehicle, a 2008 Ford Expedition, was discovered unmanned on the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. Emergency responders noted the engine was running and hazard lights were activated, but did not find his wallet or mobile phone within the vehicle.
The discovery occurred in a completely unexpected location on November 26. Hikers stumbled upon human remains near Sears Island, situated in Searsport. According to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Corporal Jeff Rice, the remains showed clear signs of prolonged exposure to water. News Center Maine relayed that the deceased appeared to be a young adult, consistent with Dmuchowsky’s approximate age.
