Fatal East Cleveland shooting involving Erik Sharp and Charles Roscoe
The names of the two individuals killed in Thursday night’s shooting incident in East Cleveland have been identified as Erik Sharp and Charles Roscoe.
Erik Sharp, the 24-year-old brother of Aaron Sharp, the suspect identified in connection with the fatal shootings, faces charges including aggravated murder and felonious assault according to East Cleveland’s safety director, Mansell Baker. Aaron Sharp is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
The suspect, Aaron Sharp, was apprehended on Friday morning inside a residence on Sheldon Avenue. This arrest followed a multi-agency operation that escalated into a standoff involving Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams.
East Cleveland Mayor Lateek Shabazz indicated that the events began as a family-related disagreement around 11 p.m. on Thursday. Officer Joshua Durda responded to an area near North Taylor Road and sustained injuries from gunfire. He was transported to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center for possible surgery.
Two individuals were found deceased inside the same residence after the initial shooting. The Cuyahoga County medical examiner’s office and East Cleveland safety officials confirmed these victims are Charles Roscoe, the suspect’s maternal grandfather, and Erik Sharp, the suspect’s sibling.
Approximately an hour later, Officer Brandon Hernandez was shot while responding to the situation. He sustained injuries requiring hospitalization but has since recovered.
East Cleveland Police Chief Reginald Holcomb stressed the dangers officers face and commended their bravery.
A multi-agency search effort involving U.S. Marshals and other departments was deployed to find the suspect hiding in the vicinity. Drones were utilized, and a containment zone was established for safety reasons. Aaron Sharp was taken into custody at a residence near Shaw High School on Friday morning.
