Chicago authorities have identified the individual who was fatally injured in a late Saturday morning incident involving a hit-and-run collision within a marked pedestrian crossing on the city’s Southwest Side.
According to police records, the accident transpired shortly after 3:20 a.m. in the Gage Park community, specifically along the 5400-block of South Kedzie Avenue.
Law enforcement officials stated that the operator of a gray automobile proceeded northbound against a traffic signal, entering the crosswalk and colliding with a 22-year-old man.
Emergency medical services conveyed the injured individual to Mt. Sinai Hospital; upon arrival, medical personnel confirmed his death.
Subsequently, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office formally identified him as Jermaine Martin, and the office officially classified his demise as a homicide.
The person responsible for driving the vehicle involved in the incident departed from the location without being apprehended; at this time, no individual has been placed under arrest.
Investigators from the Area One division are currently examining the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate occurrence. Police representatives did not offer further updates immediately following the crash.
