Fatal Novato car crash death of Cristofer Larreinaga Corea
Investigators from the Novato Police Department confirmed the identity of the 18-year-old individual behind the wheel of the incident vehicle, Cristofer Larreinaga Corea, who was apprehended on Wednesday for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident. The crash, which occurred early Wednesday morning, led to hospitalizations for two teenagers after their vehicle collided with a tree. Corea, a resident of San Rafael, faces charges including endangering minors and a hit-and-run offense that caused harm, with potential additional accusations based on the medical updates for the injured occupants.
Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, officers reported that a white Ford Edge SUV driven by Corea crashed into a tree along Ignacio Boulevard, specifically between Palmer Drive and Entrada Drive. The vehicle was extensively damaged, and two adolescents were inside. Despite an extensive search aided by a Marin County Sheriff drone operation, Corea managed to elude capture as authorities investigated the scene.
Emergency services conveyed both passengers to area medical institutions. One minor, identified as an adolescent girl, received care at a specialized trauma facility for serious injuries, while the other, a 15-year-old male, suffered considerable wounds but was reported to be in a stable health status at a community hospital.
