Fatal East Haven fall death of Frederic Sternberg

EAST HAVEN — Local law enforcement have confirmed the identity of the 65-year-old man whose passing followed a fall from an electric bicycle. Authorities pinpointed the individual as Frederic Sternberg, a recognized member of the East Haven community, through an official press statement.

The incident transpired at approximately 3:25 p.m., as reported by Captain Joseph Murgo. Emergency dispatches sent police and ambulance crews to the vicinity of Mill Street and Foxon Road, commonly identified as Route 80, to find an unconscious man who authorities later confirmed had fallen from his bike.

Medical personnel provided emergency treatment at the scene before transporting Sternberg to Yale New Haven Hospital. Regrettably, the journey to recovery was unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Investigators cite surveillance recordings as a key piece of evidence. The footage captured Sternberg pausing on Mill Street, seemingly to retrieve a piece of lumber from the road. As he attempted to proceed while balancing this item, Murgo explained, “he lost his balance and fell off the bike, tumbling down an embankment and sustaining severe injuries.”

A concerned citizen who stumbled upon the scene initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until the ambulance crew arrived to take over. Captain Murgo emphasized that aside from the victim, no other automobiles or bystanders were implicated in the accident. The department conveyed their profound sympathies to Sternberg’s family during this profoundly challenging period.
