Fatal Shafter drowning death of Holly Ann Diaz
The Kern County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the woman who perished after her vehicle drove into the Shafter canal as Holly Ann Diaz, a resident of Wasco who was 47 years old. The incident led to her death by drowning.
Local authorities were alerted when emergency services received a report on August 6, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m. about a car submerged within the canal near the intersection of Zerker Road and Lerdo Highway.
Specialized rescue teams from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit were dispatched to assist the Shafter Police officers in their operation to retrieve the submerged vehicle.
Once the car was located, officials confirmed that Diaz was the driver who had lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. She did not survive the incident, which happened at the scene.
The official cause of death determined by the Coroner’s report was classified as drowning.
