Law enforcement officials in Kanawha County have confirmed that Joshua Duff, a 35-year-old man, was fatally shot during a reported home invasion incident in the Rocky Fork region.

Based on information from the local sheriff’s office, the fatal shooting took place approximately at noon on Friday, the 8th of August. Sources indicate the homeowner discovered an intruder with a weapon inside their residence at that time. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has officially identified the suspect as Joshua Duff, who hails from Mount Zion, West Virginia.

According to investigations by the sheriff’s department, Joshua Duff was reportedly equipped with a baseball bat and a knife and threatened the homeowner. It is alleged that this confrontation spilled out from the house into the backyard. Reports from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office state that during this outdoor encounter, the homeowner retrieved a firearm and ultimately shot Duff, resulting in his death.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office further reports that preliminary investigations have revealed Joshua Duff is also connected to a high-speed chase that occurred on the 6th of August. This incident involved a vehicle that authorities claim was stolen from Pennsylvania. According to deputies, the pursuit spanned across several counties before culminating in a crash on Poca River Road. Following the crash, Joshua Duff is believed to have fled into nearby woodland, and search efforts involving police dogs were unsuccessful in locating him at that time.

Investigators maintain that they suspect Joshua Duff remained in the vicinity after the vehicle pursuit concluded. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that their ongoing probe has not yet resulted in any formal charges being filed against the homeowner involved in the shooting incident.
