Fatal Lake Ann drowning death of Peter Bensinger
The Benzie County Sheriff’s Office announced that the individual who drowned in Lake Ann on Saturday has been identified as Peter Bensinger, a 61-year-old resident of Lake Ann. According to authorities, Bensinger had descended from his vessel to attempt swimming, but powerful winds caused his craft to drift too far out of reach.
This tragic incident necessitated a two-day operation involving multiple rescue agencies. Deputies were initially called to the scene on Saturday around 2 p.m. Following a search, Bensinger’s body was ultimately located and recovered by the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Dive Team on the following day at 11 a.m.
Sheriff’s officials reported that during the incident, a nearby operator of a boat overheard cries for assistance and managed to rescue Bensinger’s companion. Despite these efforts, law enforcement stated that Bensinger himself could not be located or saved.
