Russell Edward Layton Jr., 48, died from a fatal workplace accident in Spartanburg County, S.C.

Fatal workplace accident death of Russell Edward Layton Jr., 48, occurred on Tuesday at Spartanburg Steel Products.

According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, Mr. Layton received life-threatening injuries while working with a forklift. He was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center but was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m. on Tuesday. The location of the incident was 1290 New Cut Road.

Mr. Layton was employed at Spartanburg Steel Products. The company was contacted by FOX Carolina but has chosen not to release a statement at this time.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is conducting an investigation. OSHA previously looked into an incident at Spartanburg Steel Products in 2022 involving an unstable load that fell and injured an employee.
