Fatal Tulsa shooting death of Stephen George Cox
Law enforcement in Tulsa County were notified about a disturbance occurring around midday on Thursday. The initial 911 call was received after 11:30 a.m., pinpointing the area near N. Peoria Avenue and East 66th Street North.
Deputies arriving at the scene confirmed that a shooting had taken place. According to initial reports, the incident involved an altercation between three individuals who were familiar with each other. Eyewitnesses provided conflicting accounts, but several stated that the target, identified as 34-year-old Stephen George Cox, had accused the suspected shooter, Jovohn Kadavion Blanke, who was 24 years old, of taking something from him. Following this accusation, the witnesses claimed that Blanke fired a weapon at Cox.
The situation escalated further when another individual attempted to intervene in the conflict. This person sustained injuries, reportedly from flying glass shards, following an incident where a vehicle was struck by bullets. The ongoing investigation has now been classified as a homicide case by the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, and Blanke was transported to custody.
With Cox’s death attributed to the gunshot wounds suffered during the incident, the legal charges against Blanke have been formally adjusted. The updated charges include First Degree Murder, along with the offenses of Shooting With Intent to Kill and unlawful firearm possession.
