Fatal Dale County car crash death of Carroll Grant Hughes

The Dale County Sheriff’s Office reports that Carroll Grant Hughes, an 81-year-old resident of Troy, lost his life in a collision involving two motor vehicles on a Saturday morning. The incident, investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, occurred in Dale County. Hughes, who was driving an older Ford F-250 truck, collided with a Freightliner truck driven by Jaden Christopher Dunwoody from Dothan. Hughes was not secured by a seatbelt during the collision and was found deceased at the scene. Paramedics pronounced him deceased.

Jaden Christopher Dunwoody, the 24-year-old operator of the big rig, experienced minor injuries in the accident. Medical personnel transported him to Dale Medical Center in Ozark for evaluation. The crash started around 7:35 a.m. on August 16th, specifically at the 54-mile point along U.S. Highway 231, which is located approximately five miles south of Ariton.

Highway Patrol officers with the ALEA are continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
