Fatal Daleville pickup truck-motorcycle crash death of Eric McConnell

Emergency services were dispatched to the location of the incident on Friday, August 15, around 10 p.m., at the intersection of Indiana Road 32 and Walnut Street in Daleville.

Daleville police reported that upon their arrival, they found one motorcycle rider unresponsive and another with a suspected leg injury.

Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene officially identified the deceased individual as Eric McConnell, who was 36 years old and lived in Anderson. An autopsy was performed on Sunday at the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

The other individual involved in the collision, whose identity has not been disclosed, received treatment for a fractured leg at a nearby medical facility.

Daleville police stated that the truck driver, identified as Monte Antrim, aged 58 and also from Daleville, was located seated on the curb.

A preliminary breath test indicated Antrim’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.196. Indiana law classifies drivers with a BAC of 0.08 or above as legally intoxicated.

Antrim was arrested on charges including causing death while intoxicated, causing catastrophic injury while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, disregarding a traffic control device, and failure to yield. He was transported to the Delaware County Jail.
