Champaign County officials announced that 37-year-old Matthew Mayberry died Saturday evening after his motorcycle collided with a traffic signal post, reported local news. The incident took place at the junction of Bloomington Road and Mattis Avenue.

According to Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer, Mayberry, who was operating the motorcycle at the time, sustained multiple severe injuries in the mishap, which occurred around 7:30 p.m.

Emergency services transported Mayberry to a regional medical facility, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement is actively seeking any available footage that might assist in the investigation. Champaign authorities are urging anyone in the vicinity with an external security camera and recording from the relevant timeframe to report it to the police.
