Fatal Shelley shooting death of Talon Sessions

A man identified as Talon Sessions, 35, from Thayne, Wyoming, has died following an encounter with law enforcement in Shelley. Bingham County Coroner Jimmy Roberts officially identified the deceased individual as Sessions. Roberts stated that the incident is ongoing and requested community members extend their thoughts and prayers to the Sessions family.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area east of Shelley, specifically 1100 East and 1300 North, around 11 p.m. on Tuesday due to reports of gunfire. The initial caller reported that a homeowner discovered Sessions on their property attempting to steal an all-terrain vehicle. During this interaction, shots were fired, wounding both the homeowner and Sessions, who subsequently fled the scene.

Emergency medical services were called and transported the injured homeowner to a regional medical center for treatment. Deputies arrived and located Sessions, who was reported to be wounded and possibly still armed, in a nearby field. Additional shots were fired by responding deputies from Bingham and Bonneville Counties. The article does not specify whether Sessions fired at the deputies.

Paramedics initiated emergency medical treatment for Sessions at the scene but were unable to revive him. The Bingham County Sheriff, Jeff Gardner, requested the East Idaho Critical Incident Team to assist with the investigation. No law enforcement officers or deputies were reported to be injured, and the homeowner’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The lead investigative agency is the Pocatello Police Department, with support from Idaho Falls Police and the Idaho State Police. Further details regarding the incident are expected to be released by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues.
