Fatal Shreveport car crash death of Blake Tannen
The Shreveport Police Department responded on August 16th at approximately 8 p.m. to a person versus vehicle collision reported near J.S. Clark Middle School on Hearne Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Blake Tannen, identified as 40-year-old Shreveporter Blake Tannen, lying injured on the grass alongside the roadway. Paramedics pronounced Tannen deceased at the scene, noting multiple blunt-force trauma.
Investigators state preliminary evidence indicates the incident occurred within the travel lanes, despite witness accounts suggesting Tannen was walking in the southbound lanes of the road, seemingly disregarding the available sidewalks.
The suspect vehicle struck Tannen, failed to stop, and then fled the scene.
The ongoing investigation entails extensive area canvassing by SPD officers searching for physical evidence and potential surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences.
A significant development came on August 20th, when Leavern Johnson was arrested in connection with the incident. Johnson faces charges of felony hit-and-run and felony obstruction of justice.
An autopsy has been conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
