Union Pacific officials reported that a man was hit fatally by a freight train Thursday morning south of Modesto. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Brandon Pierce, a 51-year-old individual from Ceres with transient status. Sheriff’s deputies confirmed Pierce’s death and noted that the Union Pacific Railroad Police are investigating the incident. Authorities are still working to contact the victim’s family with the public’s assistance.

The collision, which took place around 11:30 a.m., occurred near a railroad bridge on River Road. Union Pacific spokesperson Robynn Tysver stated that the train crew was not hurt, but resources were allocated to support employees involved in the operation.
