The individual who was hit and killed by a freight train in Elburn on Monday has been officially identified. According to information released on August 22, the victim is David E. Carlson, a 65-year-old resident of Sycamore.
Kane County Coroner’s Office personnel confirmed the identity of the deceased person on August 21 through the use of dental examination expertise.
Kane County Special Deputy Coroner Maureen Kelly announced that an autopsy examination will not be performed as part of this case’s investigation. However, laboratory testing for the presence of any substances is currently underway.
The investigation was handed over to Metra law enforcement officials on August 19 according to a statement released by Metra’s spokesperson Michael Gillis on that date. The specific train involved in the incident has been determined to be a Union Pacific freight service vehicle.
