Fatal Hillyard shooting death of Gavin Looper

Spokane, Washington — The young individual who was killed in the Hillyard incident on Saturday morning was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s office on Monday. The examiner confirmed that Gavin Looper, who was 13 years old, passed away at the hospital because of the injury from a bullet wound sustained on Heroy Avenue in the Hillyard area. Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots in the vicinity during the reported occurrence, with at least five or six shots being discharged.

As of Monday afternoon, no suspect had been caught in the case, and law enforcement was still probing the incident. Gavin Looper was reported to be a student at Peperzak Middle School, which is located on Spokane’s South Hill. The school district informed that counseling services would be provided at the school beginning Monday.
