Fatal Richland County, S.C. shooting death of JoKayne Carter
Officials announced the identity of the deceased individual hours after law enforcement secured two arrests tied to the incident. The fatal shooting occurred at the Bluff Road apartment complex, officially known as The Roost, on Friday.
Investigators revealed that nineteen-year-old Tyron Shelley and twenty-year-old Ta’John Goodwin have been formally charged with murder following the death. The fatal gunshot wound was sustained at 1051 Southern Drive around midday on Friday. Authorities indicated that Shelley was apprehended at his Earlewood residence, and a firearm, which was reported stolen from Florence County, was located during a search. Meanwhile, Goodwin surrendered at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from his family.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Sunday that the deceased was nineteen-year-old JoKayne Carter. Law enforcement is currently examining the circumstances surrounding the motive for the shooting. Notably, the privately-owned apartment complex serves college students, but the University of South Carolina stated that neither the victim nor the suspects have any ties to the university.
Sheriff’s deputies reported that this marks the fourteenth murder investigation of the year, with all cases resulting in arrests.
