Regrettably, an individual was pronounced deceased following an unfortunate collision with a motor vehicle on Sunday night.
The deceased is identified as Kennedy Freeman, a 22-year-old native of Gaston, South Carolina.
In the early evening hours, around 7:18 p.m., she was crossing the road in the wrong direction on Columbia Highway, situated near Bogeyville Road, when she was struck from behind by a northbound automobile.
Emergency services conveyed her to the Aiken Regional Medical Centers, but despite their efforts, she did not survive and passed away shortly afterward at approximately 8:16 p.m.
The coroner, Darryl Ables, has been informed and addressed this incident.
The person driving the vehicle involved in this tragedy emerged unharmed from the event.
Currently, the South Carolina Highway Patrol is collaborating with the authorities to probe the causes behind this accident.
Further, it has been noted that toxicology screening is underway to determine if any substances played a role in the incident.
