Fatal downtown Louisville shooting death of Melinda Leigh Doolin

According to information released by the Louisville Metro Police Department, officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to a stabbing incident located in the 400 block of South 8th Street at the Avenue Plaza Apartments complex.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a woman inside an apartment unit who had sustained a serious gunshot wound. Medical personnel confirmed her death at the location.

Further examination at the scene revealed a man outside the apartment building who had suffered a laceration from a stabbing. He was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, and medical staff expect he will recover.

The Homicide Unit from the Louisville Metro Department of Public Safety is currently investigating this incident. Police have not identified any suspects at this time.
