Fatal car crash on Colorado Highway 9 death of Timothy Sheffield
Law enforcement units arrived at the scene of a vehicle and pedestrian incident around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, located on Colorado Highway 9 near the Gold Hill trailhead area. The pedestrian involved, a man identified as 59-year-old Timothy Sheffield from Colorado Springs, was pronounced deceased following the collision.
Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken officially identified the deceased individual as Timothy Sheffield, confirmed by the Colorado State Patrol.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred near Revett Drive, which connects with Highway 9 between Frisco and Breckenridge. Authorities noted that bus stops are situated on both sides of the highway in that vicinity.
A 35-year-old man from Black Hawk operating a Ford Mustang was the driver involved in the accident. Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez reported that the Mustang was traveling northbound in the rightmost lane at the time of the impact. The Patrol’s initial assessment of the situation indicated the driver applied the brakes before the collision occurred. Additionally, the investigation suggests that Timothy Sheffield crossed the road in front of the vehicle and that his actions contributed to the accident, placing some responsibility on him.
