Fatal Colorado Highway 9 car crash death of Timothy Sheffield
Emergency services arrived shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th, following a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Colorado Highway 9, a location near the Gold Hill trailhead. The individual who was struck, a man of 59 years of age, later passed away at the scene.
Officials from the Summit County Coroner’s office, led by Amber Flenniken, confirmed the identity of the deceased as Timothy Sheffield, a resident of Colorado Springs, following an announcement from the Colorado State Patrol.
According to reports from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the incident transpired near Revett Drive, a location noted for having bus stops on either side of the highway, an intersection point situated between the towns of Frisco and Breckenridge.
The driver involved was a man aged 35, residing in Black Hawk, operating a Ford Mustang. Trooper Sherri Mendez from the Colorado State Patrol stated the Mustang was moving northbound in the correct lane at the time of the impact. Preliminary findings from the State Patrol’s investigation indicated the driver had applied the brakes prior to making contact, while the pedestrian stepped into the path of the moving vehicle. Consequently, it was determined that the pedestrian, Mr. Sheffield, bore responsibility for the collision.
